Private Supply and Well Water Treatment
If you rely on your own private source of water whether it be ‘surface water source’ from rivers, lakes, streams or from a ‘ground water source’ such as springs, boreholes or wells, your private water supply will almost always need some form of treatment to ensure that it is healthy to drink. Although the water may appear clear and taste good, it can still contain any number of contaminants which may negatively affect health over the long term. These may roughly be divided into three types: chemical, biological and sediment contamination.
We are able to offer a full range of private supply water treatment systems which include: Turbidity reduction, pH correction, Iron reduction, Manganese & Hydrogen Sulphide reduction, Hardness reduction (softener), Nitrate reduction, Hydrogen sulphide removal (only), Ammonia removal, Heavy metal reduction, Aluminium reduction, Organic reduction, UV water treatment systems and sterilisation.
To accurately determine the issues that require attention it a great advantage to have the water tested and a full water analysis obtained, with at a minimum testing for Iron, Manganese, Turbidity, pH, Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Chloride, Nitrates, Lead, Aluminium and Coliforms.
The other essential parameter which it is necessary to assess is the required flow rate for your household. For a guide to this consideration please see our article ‘How To Calculate Your Flow Rate’.
From a health perspective alone, we always recommend UV sterilisation together with suitable sediment pre-filter for any private water source in order to ensure the water is free from bacteria, cysts and other micro-organisms such as cryptosporidium & gardia which have the potential to make people unwell and which can be very serious for those with compromised immune systems.
